The Alrewas and District Agricultural and Horticultural Society was formed in 1879 to promote improvement in the rearing of livestock, the invention and improvement of agricultural and horticultural implements and the encouragement of skill in agriculture and horticulture by the holding of an annual show. It has been held each year with the exception of 1st World War, the Foot and Mouth outbreak in 2001 and in 2007 owing to the flooding of the showground.
The annual Alrewas Show quickly became an important part of social life and grew from the modest beginnings of the first show in 1879 to being recognised in it's centennial year as one of the largest one day shows in the country, ofter referred to as the 'Little Royal'.
Throughout it's history, the Show has enjoyed the active support of the farming community, local farmers taking it in turns to provide a field for the annual show.
In 1997 the Show ended it's nomadic existance, aquiring it's own Showground on Daisy Lane with the generous support of the local farming and business community and members of the Society.
The Show reflects the traditions of agriculture and horticulture stretching over the past 133 years whilst ensuring a real family fun day out and involving everyone in the local community of Alrewas and District.
