Alrewas Show

Goats

We are excited to announce the new Goats Section at the Alrewas Show.

Goats were among the first domesticated livestock animals, brought to Europe from the Near East in Neolithic times. Classic British breeds such as the Bagot and British Primitive Goat are descendants of these early breeds.

Goats are versatile animals valued for milk, meat, fibre, and land management.  Goat milk is highly digestible and suitable for people with mild to moderate lactose intolerance. Goat meat is leaner than beef and lamb, lower in fat and cholesterol and higher in iron.

Certain breeds such as Angora and Pygora goats produce mohair, while Cashmere goats produce cashmere fibre. Goat skins can be tanned and used for leather production like gloves and rugs.
